Take 2

For one reason or another I’ve decided that I’m going to give the whole blogging thing another go. Since I last posted I have become a daddy for the second time and am being kept very busy with daddy things. So posts will be few and far between but when I feel the need to write something down this will be the place I’ll do it. As for what type of content I’ll be writing, I have no idea. I just plan on seeing what comes out.

Naked

Having a little redesign and felt the need to remove the old styles and go naked for a while. Ooh its a bit chilly.

Door to Desk

I decided to document my journey to work today in the form of some blurry camera phone shots. None of my trains were late and I had no crazy people talking to me on the tube, so quite uneventful all in all.

I find my self wanting to do things like this since the arrival of little Tom. “Look Tom this is how daddy got to work before he got his rocket turbo boots”. I’d be really interested to see your journey, get out your camera/phone and start clicking, post a link here for all to see.

DOM Scripting

Another quick post, this time to say how much I’m enjoying reading Jeremy Keith’s DOM Scripting. For designers who find “programming languages” hard to grasp this book is ideal. Clearly written and aimed at designers you’ll find it impossible not to learn something.

On the Ajax Web 2.0 bandwagon thingy.

Just a quickie to say measure map rocks. I’ve been using this blog stats application for a few days now over at Apple Mad and I’m impressed. It’s so easy to use, delivers all the info a blogger could possibly need and to top it off it’s all wrapped up in a beautiful UI. Excellent job Adaptive Path. Oh and it’s free.

AppleMad pre-beta

Just for fun I’ve built AppleMad.com an Apple focused news and reviews site. I am opening it’s doors to the public way to early. It’s not tested on a whole heap of browsers and the mark up and CSS are a bit messy (if your geeky enough to look). There is no real content to speak of (I’m on the look out for Apple loving volunteer bloggers for that) and I’m still not completely sure what place it has on the interweb but I’m sure I’ll do my best to make a go of it and give it the time it deserves – more time than I spend here anyway :)

What a truly liberating experience it is to know your target audience and build a site with pixel fonts and min/max-width.

Anyway pop in put the kettle on, have a look around and let me know what you think.

iTunes 5 and iPod nano

See what happens when I go away on Holiday. Apple go and release a new iPod and new version of iTunes. I’m not 100% sure about the new iTunes look but the new features are great. The most useful for me has got to be the ability to organise playlists into folders. A simple and much needed feature in my opinion. The new search is also pretty damn good. I just wish they would hurry up and get a G5 powerbook out there. Mmmm I wonder how long it will be before they can make a powerbook as slim as the iPod nano.

Another stealth tax

I’ve just discovered another stealth tax. Ok this one does not directly go to the government but instead goes directly to the person who does the laundry in your household. Your wife/husband/boyfriend/girlfriend/android is pocketing a percentage of your lose change from dirty washing that you have thoughtfully hung on the floor 2 feet away from the laundry basket.

I caught my girlfriend making a DWT deduction this morning, she calls it the Sarah washing fund, I call it another reason I can’t afford a G5 Power Mac or diamonds for the soles of my shoes.

How much are YOU getting taxed? How long has this been going on? Are there any tax breaks if we manage to put our laundry in the basket. (Yeah.. who is going to do that!)

Quote from the girlfriend in question.
I wont hold onto notes, that’s like an unwritten rule, but up to about £2 worth of change is the current rate*.

So apparently I can pay up to £2 per load in Dirty Washing Tax. I’m not sure what tax bracket that puts me in but it seems like a pretty reasonable one, I get a good service, my clothes always magically appear on hangers in my wardrobe smelling like fresh daises and 8 times out of ten remain the same size and colour as the day I bought them.

*This rate may change without warning or reason. Your side of the bed maybe at risk if you do not keep up payments.

My poor desk

I meant to blog about this at the time, but I never had a blog then so I couldn’t. Anyway I goes away for three weeks to the beautiful Land of the long white cloud. I reluctantly return to work to find my desk looking like THIS. Seems my colleagues Mat and Vince had a busy time while I was away.
